How to Join

Dolphin Indoor Bowls Club is available for both Members and Non Members to play bowls. A membership form can be copied from the tab below or pop into the club where someone will be happy to assist you. Open Days to the public are held twice each year in September and January; these are responsible for keeping the Membership to a high level and, with the expertise of the Coaches and Senior Members, prospective Members soon understand the art of bowling.

Prospective Members, who have not played bowls before, are encouraged to join the five week Coaching Course; after this there is another four weeks to become accustomed to playing in league formations and to learn more about the game of bowls. The Joining Fee of £100 is payable at this point together with the appropriate Annual Subscription; however, there is the option of paying this Fee in 4 x £25 instalments, payable with the Annual Subscription in September each year.

After joining, Members are encouraged to further participate by joining a Novice League and also take part in “Spoon Drives”, which are held twice per week in the winter season and once in the summer season. Our fees for membership and playing are detailed below; all memberships run from 1st October to 30th September of the following year.

Juniors

The Dolphin Indoor Bowls Club has a Junior Section which accepts children between the ages of 8 to 18. Qualified coaches are present and give appropriate instruction on Saturday mornings from 0930 to 1130; this is known as “The Saturday Morning Club”. Children have the first 4 Saturdays free of charge after which, if they wish to continue, they are charged £1 for each 2 hour session (Annual Subscription is £5). The Saturday Morning Club is open for the Winter Period only (end of September to early April); an average attendance on Saturday mornings is 21 children. Each child is entered for the Singles and Pairs competitions to get them used to competitive play. Matches are also arranged against other Clubs in Dorset and Devon.

Children have the option of joining the Junior Section from the age of 10 and this gives the same rights as adult members; the usual Child Protection Rules apply. The charge for Junior Membership is a Joining Fee of £50, which can be paid over 4 years, plus £10 Annual Subscription. Once a child reaches the age of 18 they automatically become an adult member.

At the end of January 2009, the Dolphin hosted the annual Dorset County Youth Development Scheme “Day of Excellence”; a ‘round robin’ competition with challenges of individual exercises facing the participants. 15 Dolphin Juniors took part and the overall winner was one of our young ladies and one of our young boys coming 4th; both qualified for the National Finals in Exeter in April 2010.

Our Open Days have shown that some parents, grandparents and responsible adults, who have brought youngsters along, have also signed up for coaching. Anyone interested in bringing a Junior along and needing information should contact Penny Cresswell on 01202 690182.
